Data Analysis
The presented scenario focuses on a 40-year-old female with low back pain and her experience at Texas Health Huguley Hospital, Fort Worth South. Table 1 below presents the standards that depict different aspects of the patient’s experience at the facility and provides statistics on the measures.
Use of MRI
The first section focuses on data on the use of medical imaging tests, particularly magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Table 1 exhibits that, on average, 37.1% of patients nationwide and 40.2% across the state had lower back pain and had an MRI without first attempting recommended treatments (“Hospital,” 2024). This information is relevant to the case, as the woman was referred for an MRI immediately upon arrival at the emergency department (ED). However, Health Huguley (HH) has yet to report on the benchmark (“Hospital,” 2024). Accordingly, HH cannot be adequately assessed on the utilization of medical imaging.

Timeliness of Care
The second section of Table 1 focuses on whether a facility provides timely and effective care. The specific measure selected for the category concerns the average time people spend in the ED, which is 211 minutes nationwide and 175 minutes statewide. For HH, the term is 156 minutes, but the patient in the scenario spent over 280 minutes in the ED from arrival until discharge (“Hospital,” 2024). Consequently, HH performs well in terms of ED wait times compared to the national average, but appears to have failed to provide quality care to the woman in the reviewed case.
Satisfaction with Communication
The third section of Table 1 addresses patient satisfaction in communicating with nurses. The chosen measure for the category focuses on the percentage of individuals who consistently have positive interactions with nurses. The statistics are 79% nationwide and 80% statewide. The data demonstrate that 76% of patients have reported that HH’s nurses always communicate well (“Hospital,” 2024). Nonetheless, in the examined scenario, the woman did not have pleasant encounters with nurses. Consequently, HH has a below-average rating for nurses’ communication skills, as evidenced in the assessed case.
Additional Data Sources
In addition to the above-referenced Medicare Hospital Compare, two more sources can be used to find public information on medical facilities regarding the discussed measures. First, the Healthgrades website can be employed to view ratings of healthcare organizations. For example, the online platform reports that 76% of HH patients reported good communication with nurses, which is comparable to the national average of 74%. Nonetheless, there is no data on the statewide parameters of the measure (“Texas Health,” n.d.a).
Second, the US News portal can be utilized to assess medical institutions. For instance, when considering the same criteria, the website indicates that people have rated communication with HH nurses as 3 out of 5. However, the measure cannot be further investigated by using national and state statistics, as they are absent (“Texas Health,” n.d.b). Accordingly, Healthgrades and US News can be used to locate more public information about healthcare facilities, but they offer limited data.
Quality Measures at Health Huguley
One quality measure that could affect HH is the median time people spend in the ED. An ED can be considered a unit that offers rapid and efficient care, prompt admission, and urgent attention (OrtĂz-Barrios & Alfaro-SaĂz, 2020). However, as suggested in the assessed scenario, HH’s ED did not function as identified, causing trouble for both the patient and the facility.
First, the woman in the examined case spent 280 minutes without anyone checking on her. Such a situation likely led the patient to be dissatisfied with HH, as people can accept waiting but want to be informed of the reason for the delay (ErikssonâLiebon et al., 2021). Second, ensuring that individuals in the ED receive the services they need is crucial for staff to address other urgent procedures (McIntyre & Chow, 2020). Therefore, the average time patients spend in the ED could affect HH by displeasing patients and preventing employees from completing other important tasks.
