The necessity of the creation of an efficient assessment tool to investigate a certain sphere of human activity aiming at its improvement is proved by a number of researches. The implementation of the given analysis tool results in the initiation of the process of change which gives rise to many concerns related to the level of the performance. In the case of the healthcare sector, the usage of the needs assessment tool is crucial as it might contribute to the increase of its efficiency and trigger the process of change needed for the further evolution of the given sphere. Additionally, the analysis of certain procedures will help to outline the change areas and provide the information needed for their improvement. In this regard, PICC could also benefit from the usage of the needs assessment tool and reach the new level.
The success of the needs assessment tool lies in the usage of credible data. For this reason, the method suggested for the analysis of PICC should be able to collect the most topical and reliable data for a researcher to be able to analyze it and highlight the change areas. That is why, the main stages of the analysis imply the collection, analysis, and presentation of data combined with the creation of the efficient change strategy. Its efficiency depends on the rightness of the conclusions obtained from the analysis. Resting on the fact that the survey is chosen as the main tool to collect data needed for the PICC investigation, it is possible to suggest the following methods of data analysis.
First, the quantitative method should be applied to the process of elaboration. The reason for the usage of the given method lies in the determination of the frequency of the complications. It could help to notice the tendency towards the appearance and development of different side effects and provide the conclusions needed to initiate the investigation of the main results of these complications. Additionally, the quantitative analysis could help to determine the percentage and the number of patients with certain characteristics among the respondents of the survey (Data Analysis Methodology, 2013). Finally, the quantitative data might help to calculate the rate of the successful and unsuccessful usages of PICC and provide the conclusion of whether this procedure should be characterized as the safe one. The results obtained due to the given method could be presented in the form of graphs and tables for a researcher to obtain a clear vision of the investigated problem.
The usage of the qualitative method could also contribute to the improvement of the given assessment tool. As identified above, the main goal of the investigation is to determine the areas of change to improve the quality of the procedure. In this regard, the qualitative analysis of the data is crucial for the determination of the most important problems. The qualitative data is related to the scale of the manifestation of some concerns. This sort of information could hardly be presented with the help of numbers (Leite, 2014). In terms of PICCs analysis conducted with the help of a survey, it is crucial to process the answers investigating the patients feedbacks on the quality of the procedure and their feelings which follow the insertion of the catheter. The qualitative analysis might help to get the image of PICC and its main concerns.
Finally, the complexity of the investigated problem and the number of factors impacting its state evidence the necessity of the usage of the mixed method which implies both qualitative and quantitative approaches (Hofmann, 2013). This combination of these two ways of data processing will result in the significant improvement of the results of the study and contribute to the investigation of PICC and the aftermath of its usage. The qualitative method includes the investigation and analysis of the data related to the patients feelings (Kaufman & Guerra-LĂłpez, 2013) on the insertion of the catheter and provides the results describing this very sphere. At the same time, the usage of the quantitative approach guarantees the processing of the qualitative data and the presentation of the main numbers and statistics related to the given assessment tool. The mixed approach also contributes to the improvement of the credibility of the results of the investigation as it accomplishes the comprehensive analysis of PICC.
For these reasons, there are several concerns connected with the above-mentioned assessment tool and data processing. The major one is related to the usage of the quantitative and qualitative approaches to provide a comprehensive investigation of the survey’s results. The patients description of the complications, their rate, and feelings supporting the procedure should be analyzed with the help of the mixed approach to determine the key problematic areas and initiate the change process (Weigl et al., 2013). Finally, the results of the data analysis are crucial for the assessment tool and determine its success. That is why there is a great necessity for the efficient and precise mechanism of the investigation of data and its preparation for the further discussion on the topic.
