In the context of present-day development, a variety of experiment and research methods and designs exist. This fact is reasoned by the determination of scientists to provide the most comprehensive picture of the topic they explore and cover all the aspects of the problem. In order to pursue this purpose, it is essential to approach even the same issue from different perspectives. The articles A Mental Health Home Visit Service Partnership Intervention on Improving Patients’ Satisfaction, Chronic Drug Treatment among Hemodialysis Patients, Factors Influencing Hand Hygiene Practice of Nursing Students are illustrative in this regard. They demonstrate a variety of methods and designs applied in the studies, which benefit the outcomes of explorations and provide reliable results. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to compare this article in the context of the chosen methods and designs, and estimate the validity of the result.
A Mental Health Home Visit Service Partnership Intervention on Improving Patients’ Satisfaction
The first article to be analyzed is A Mental Health Home Visit Service Partnership Intervention on Improving Patients’ Satisfaction, written by a large group of scientists. The study implies using a “time series quasi-experimental quantitative design” (Cheng et al., 2018, p. 610). The participants were separated into groups, which were the experimental and the control ones. The first group incurred partnership intervention, while the second one adhered to routine home visits (Cheng et al., 2018).
The level of patient satisfaction was estimated at the beginning of the study, when there was no intervention, six and twelve months after the appliance of the intervention (Cheng et al., 2018). Therefore, the researchers could compare the results and trace their changes for a significant period of time. Such an approach is highly likely to guarantee the reliability and validity of the study results. Therefore, the method and the design of the study are appropriate and match its aims and intended outcomes.
Chronic Drug Treatment among Hemodialysis Patients
The second article intended to be compared is Chronic Drug Treatment among Hemodialysis Patients: A Qualitative Study of Patients, Nursing and Medical Staff Attitudes and Approaches. It should be marked that the authors do not mention a particular design for the study. Considering the objectives set by the researchers and the methods they choose, it may be concluded that it is close to the case-control type. The study is qualitative, and the grounded theory approach presents its foundation (Gilad et al., 2020). The authors stick to “semi-structured, in-depth, interviews with patients and staff from the same dialysis unit studied previously” (Gilad et al., 2020, p. 1). Furthermore, the article covers the cases and staff members of Hadassah Medical Center, which is located in Jerusalem, Israel.
The information presented in the article may be considered to be reliable and trustworthy, as the authors attempt to cover two sides of the issue and conversate both with health care providers and patients. In addition, the semi-structured format of the interview allows to adjust to the dialogue and receive in-depth insight into the person’s experience. However, it is essential to highlight that the study refers to only one medical setting. For this reason, it does not supply a comprehensive picture of chronic drug treatment issues, as the design restricts the scope to only Hadassah Medical Center.
Factors Influencing Hand Hygiene Practice of Nursing Students
Factors Influencing Hand Hygiene Practice of Nursing Students appears to be the last article to be compared to other ones in the context of its methods and design. This study differs from the previously mentioned ones, as it adheres to mixed methods, which are questionnaires, descriptive and inferential analysis, and semi-structured interviews (Zimmerman, 2020). In general, it is descriptive, and it contains two phases (Zimmerman, 2020).
The study refers to a group of students of the Bachelor Nursing program at an Australian university (Zimmerman, 2020). Therefore, although a mixed-method approach is beneficial to revealing all the details of the topic, it may appear to be limited to some extent. The fact that it involves students from the same university and the same program does not contribute to providing a comprehensive picture of the situation. For this reason, this study is reliable and trustworthy only in the context of the Bachelor Nursing program at an Australian university.
Conclusion
After comparing the aforementioned articles, it is possible to conclude that all of them adhere to different methods and designs depending on the topic of exploration. The chosen approach contributes to providing a comprehensive analysis of the problems and is helpful for covering all the details of it. However, it should be marked that the choice of particular methods and design may limit the results and their significance in some cases.
