At the moment, medicine and society are still facing many different problems. This is happening even though healthcare is now at a relatively high level of development. Moreover, many other factors have a strong influence on how specialized organizations respond to the occurrence of various problems. This can be as insufficient sponsorship from the state and foundations, a low number of medical personnel, and a large number of patients. All this significantly affects how organizations respond to diseases and issues, despite the efforts invested. This work explores the problem of a sedentary lifestyle and how the Healthy People 2020 program addresses it.
For this work, a study was conducted on the correspondence of the collected and generated data. In general, it can be said that the data turned out to be the same, without significant differences. Hence, Healthy People 2020 showed that the majority of the American population does not adhere to a healthy lifestyle and they lack physical activity. Therefore, “adults in the U.S. consume fruit about 1.1 times per day and vegetables about 1.6 times per day; adolescents showed even lower intake” (“Nutrition, physical activity, and obesity,” n.d.). Moreover, sources show that “the majority of adults (81.6%) and adolescents (81.8%) do not get the recommended amount of physical activity” (“Nutrition, physical activity, and obesity,” n.d.). Thus, it is necessary to improve the situation among the population and reduce the degree of a sedentary lifestyle.
Today, a low level of physical activity is becoming a global health problem in many countries. A sedentary lifestyle is defined as an insufficient amount of physical activity of various kinds of intensity relative to the recommended daily level. A sedentary lifestyle is also spreading due to the small number of places for sports. In addition, there is an increase in the number of sedentary behaviors and professions and an increase in the penetration of television and video devices into people’s daily lives. Low mobility and non-adherence to a healthy diet are some of the main mechanisms for the development of various health-related deviations in the population (Kim, 2018; Kohorst et al., 2018). Increasing the time of a sedentary lifestyle worsens the homeostat of body weight and increases the level of chronic inflammation. One of the most severe consequences of a sedentary lifestyle is a general decline in well-being and immunity, which can lead to cancer. Moreover, a sedentary lifestyle harms the cardiovascular system and puts metabolic disorders at risk (Park et al., 2020). Therefore, reducing sedentary lifestyles and increasing physical activity are essential for strengthening public health.
The effect of the untimely response of healthcare organizations to health and lifestyle problems of the population is an increase in cases of obesity. This disease also causes problems such as heart disease, and all types of diabetes, which can lead to fatal outcomes. Healthy People 2020 also provides data that increases the level of medical care costs and, in general, can become a challenge for the entire healthcare system. That is why it is necessary to set the goal of improving the overall health of the American population, assimilation of healthy habits by people, and increasing participation in physical activity.
The Healthy People Initiative has become an integral part of the United States program to improve public health. Every ten years, the program publishes specialized journals with updated goals and the definition of areas and tasks to improve the well-being of the population. All these aspects are monitored and evaluated over the next ten years. Moreover, it is noted that this progress may be limited, which raises doubts about the effectiveness of healthy people in shaping results.
For the formation of tasks and areas, their actions are measured using the obtained initial data and pre-set targets among the intended results. Those who have achieved high indicators are tracked for informational purposes. Targets for these information purposes will be set within a decade if justified. These indicators can be changed as the program develops, depending on the measure of determining data sources and obtaining initial information.
Data for health program logs are taken from records, and censuses without a specific sample. Thus, each goal contains a data source and a base value. It is also worth noting that the information is characterized by reliability and reliability. The received and generated data provide a point from which goals and objectives for the next ten years are set. If any changes are made to the data or any of the components over time, they will be transformed, taking into account the changes made.
Subsequent data are added to the Healthy People 2020 database on an ongoing basis as data becomes available. Sources note that “as of March 5, 2014, there were 998 measurable goals and 237 development goals, for a total of 1,235 goals” (“Topics & objectives”, n.d.). For some goals and data, there may be problems with interpretation, which may also affect the speed of response to some emerging issues. Moreover, some data systems are not designed to provide national assessments, for example, such as a behavioral risk factor surveillance system.
The community in Miami, which is being investigated for a sedentary lifestyle, can be described as a population with more advantages than disadvantages. Firstly, an extremely favorable climate positively impacts people’s health. It is always sunny in Florida, which supports vitamin D in people’s organics. Moreover, because of the warm weather, people are less likely to get sick. In addition, the city has access to the ocean, which also contributes to more excellent community activity.
It is also worth noting that in this city people in most cases take care of their health, which has a positive trend. Even older adults are characterized by relatively good health and the presence of a small number of diseases, which in most cases arise due to age characteristics. In Miami, people also pay much attention to their appearance and take care of their bodies. Moreover, they do not abuse alcoholic beverages, which is a great advantage. A negative aspect can still be the large number of people who are engaged in sedentary work.
Therefore, this work was engaged in the study of a sedentary lifestyle and how an untimely response from health authorities can negatively affect health indicators. Thus, it is essential to note that low physical activity and unhealthy eating habits can cause the development of diseases associated, for example, with the cardiovascular system or a general decrease in human immunity. The Healthy People 2020 program sets topics and areas in which improvement is needed every ten years. This can be useful because it uses reliable information obtained during the study of a variety of received and generated data.
Thus, it can be concluded that physical inactivity or a sedentary lifestyle is a kind of scourge of modern man. Moreover, it is important to emphasize that this problem is much more serious than it may seem at first. In some rare cases, this disease can even lead to death. It is this lifestyle that contributes to the development of heart diseases and hormonal disorders. Many sources note that a sedentary lifestyle is a consequence of improving the quality of life, liberation from physical labor, and the development of technology.
A particularly strong low level of human activity affects the cardiovascular system. This is because the metabolism decreases and the blood supply to the tissues worsens. Moreover, physical inactivity caused by a sedentary lifestyle is not considered an independent disease, but a mixture of diseases that significantly weaken and disrupt the functioning of body functions. The main reason for the spread of this disease is a forced inactive way of living.
The analysis of research on this topic is, therefore, of particular importance. The data collected for scientific work must coincide with the generated data. One of the organizations that address the health problems of the population is Healthy Person 2020. This program publishes a specialized magazine every ten years, which shows the problems that need to be dealt with. Among them, it is noted that people have become less concerned about a healthy lifestyle and prefer sedentary to it. However, this fact does not apply to everyone. Hence, the Miami community clearly and specifically monitors its nutrition and the amount of physical activity, which is its advantage.
