Ethics is one of the crucial aspects of the healthcare system since it concerns the fair and reliable treatment on the point of the medical personnel. Medical ethics guarantees that patients will be treated attentively and with respect to their dignity despite their race, age, sex, financial situation, or other factors (Goodwin University, 2020). That is why there exists the Nursing Code of Ethics that claims nine moral values and rules every nurse should stick to when treating the patients.
The Code contains several provisions the nurses should comply with during their work process. The most important one concerns providing the patient’s well-being and safety and advocating for his privacy (Indeed, 2021). The nurse should properly inform the patient about the treatment he will receive. The most common example of guiding this provision is the patient’s informed consent that he signs after the doctor or nurse explained to him the course of the treatment in detail. It is important to observe the tenet in order to ensure the safety of the treatment as well as the patient’s trust and well-being that are the key indicators of the patient’s further recovery.
The next principle that should be observed concerns the collaboration between the nurses and other healthcare professionals or even patients and their families. Observing this principle may help in reaching the best results in the patients’ treatment which is crucial for the healthcare system since it prioritizes the patient’s well-being and health (Indeed, 2021). The best example of the tenet concerns the care of a patient who is not fully recovered after his discharge from the hospital. Nurses may apply this provision in practice to ensure high-quality treatment and support the equality of all patients despite the outside factors.
To conclude, it may be stated that ethics is one of the crucial aspects of nursing. It is necessary for the medical personnel to observe the ethical values and rules when treating the patient. Prioritizing the well-being and safety of the latter and proper aftercare, help the nurses not only treat the patient effectively but ensure people’s trust and respect towards the healthcare system as well.
