Quality Improvement in Medical Institutions

Quality improvement is one of the most critical components of the functioning of medical institutions. This process implies a systematic approach that involves monitoring, evaluating, and working to improve standards for providing care to people in the health sector. Each organization has a particular group of people responsible for this aspect. Quality improvement actions are characterized by cycles and need constant improvement to achieve the best and most successful results. Moreover, improving quality can significantly help an organization move away from traditional and outdated standards and gain a competitive position among competitors. Research shows that “include practicing evidence-based medicine or auditing how much care is delivered according to gold standard guidance” (Swanwick & Vaux, 2020, p. 5). This is due to the application and analysis of the advantages of new technologies and adaptation to internal and external factors. The process under study helps to limit the occurrence of many incidents and problems related to the health of patients. This may be reducing the number of falls or prescribing the wrong medications. The importance of improving quality is to significantly improve and optimize the medical care processes for the population. Moreover, it can help increase reliability and provide the opportunity to elevate care delivery and enhance patient outcomes.

The most critical part of the process under study is the involvement of people who form a quality improvement committee. One of its functions is the study of the internal and external environment, which determines the direction of the goals and the task for implementation (Coles et al., 2020). This body of the healthcare institution is developing a program to improve the operation of the hospital. In addition, the quality improvement committee can provide recommendations based on the developed programs and acquired data about the medical institution. These aspects also include monitoring and evaluating initiatives on the topic under study. Such professionals as nurses, medical technicians, doctors, and other medical support staff become members of my committee since they can provide the most detailed information about the processes of the medical institution. I believe that it is necessary to take into account the opinions of patients, but there is no need for the direct involvement of patients in the process. It will be sufficient to conduct studies that will provide information about people’s opinions about the care provided and the attitude of medical personnel to patients. However, in some cases, it is possible to involve patients directly if it concerns particularly complex cases, the solution of which is quite tricky to find.

One of the more challenging aspects of the committee’s work to improve medical services quality is attracting new staff and maintaining interest. This can help with the involvement of personnel who will be more involved in the process and aim to raise the level of work of the medical institution. The quality improvement committee involves the work of several specialists and the development of disciplinary practices. For the greatest efficiency and success, increasing the most interested professionals is necessary. To do this, it is crucial to demonstrate what advantages a medical organization can get, and the specialists themselves are involved in this activity. Hence, working on the committee is an excellent opportunity to improve leadership, communication, and team qualities. In addition, it can have an impact on career growth and the expansion of medical knowledge. To raise the interest of employees, the idea and mission of the activity can also be clearly defined. Therefore, the people involved in the activity should be interested in forming a workplace that strives to improve and improve quality.
