NYU College of Nursing is one of the most well-known nursing institutions, which deserves to be taken a closer look at. It has several competitors, including the College of Staten Island of the City University of New York, Molloy College and St. Joseph’s College). Judging by the fact that the number of specialists graduating annually from the NYU College is higher than the one from the corresponding competitors, it is safe to say that the NYU College does not have potential competitors at the moment. Apart from the traditional set of activities, which are required by the state curriculum, the school features several courses for improving the students’ skills in basic nursing, as well as allowing them to acquire and train completely new ones, which will help the student become more efficient in their career (NYU College of Nursing, 2014).
Robert Moses can be considered the former key power broker in society. At present, no obvious power brokers have emerged to sustain and support NYU College. The relationships between educational institutions and those beholding power are quite complex. While not affecting the educational institutions directly, the power brokers define the economic success of these institutions. In addition, the local powerbrokers are among key donors to the colleges.
At present, there are single-payer, universal and national health insurance healthcare systems. Among the major problems that these systems are to deal with in the specified region, cardiovascular disorders should be listed. Therefore, the role of nursing concerns not only providing the corresponding healthcare services but also spreading awareness concerning the necessary precaution measures. The nursing workforce in Manhattan, New York can be defined as quite competent. The same can be said about the state; as for the nation, some states may need to update their nursing standards. In New York, much like in the U.S. in general, nurse practitioners and registered nurses are often sought by healthcare services. In the future, Manhattan, New York and the USA will clearly need more nurses for emergency departments, judging by the current tendencies. International Nursing Association is the key nursing organization in the region.
The political climate, in which the institution in question has been set, is quite favorable for training efficient nurses as well. One must give the local authorities credit for allowing the academic establishments for executing their ability to coordinate their actions and carry out specific activities on their own. For example, the school is allowed to make the required changes to its staff hiring policies, as well as determine the human resource policies. It should be noted, though, that, to arrange a public event, the school still must consult the local authorities; therefore, the leadership approach adopted by the latter can be defined as laissez-faire. The National Health Service strategies seem to be predominant in the given environment, though some elements of the National Health Insurance system are also present in the given setting. Among the major nursing organizations in the region, the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners must be named (Education Portal, 2014). The establishment receives enough support from the state government bodies. As for the existing education programs, the Intro Statistics for the Health Professions, Research in Nursing, Nursing Issues and Trends Within the Health Care Delivery and Population Focused Care (NYU Nursing, 2014) must be mentioned. These nursing programs help provide the students with information on the latest nursing strategies and their proper use, which is especially important in light of the fact that information technologies have reinvented nursing completely.
Based on the information above, the NYU College of Nursing is doing rather fine. It could be argued that a better financial policy should be introduced, though, For example, the school could come up with a better liability strategy. The school standards, however, are up to the highest expectations. The range of educational opportunities suggested for the students is very wide, and the chances, which the students have for professional development after graduating from the school are truly stellar (NYU College of Nursing, n. d.).
