My Personal Philosophy of Nursing and Advanced Practice

Introduction

A Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) should promote the best practices such as health promotion, empowerment, disease-preventing, counseling, and support (Blair & Jansen, 2015). Such practices should be embraced across the lifespan. This fact explains why I chose to nurse. My goal and desire are to provide quality health support to every person in need (Iglehart, 2013). Family Nurse Practice should be treated as an important career that seeks to offer evidence-based care to every patient.

My Philosophy of Advanced Nursing Practice

My nursing philosophy as an FNP focuses on powerful concepts and evidence-based practices that can promote the health needs of many people. I chose this profession to offer quality care to many individuals around the family unit (Iglehart, 2013). My mission is to provide quality medical care to every person in the family unit. This should be done “regardless of people’s spiritual foundations, financial statuses, lifestyles, races, and disabilities” (Iglehart, 2013, p. 1938). Every patient deserves evidence-based and individualized medical support. That being the case, I will always use clinical judgment to support the health needs of every family. I will embrace new concepts that can improve the health outcomes of my patients. The practice will eventually support many underserved populations.

I strongly believe that FNPs should maintain patient confidentiality. Healthcare providers should “encourage every patient to become an active participant in his or her care” (Iglehart, 2013, p. 1938). I will always design the most appropriate health models for my patients. Such models will encourage them to focus on the best health practices and behaviors (Blair & Jansen, 2015). They will also focus on their spiritual, emotional, physical, and psychological needs. This practice supports the provision of patient-centered, holistic, and safe healthcare.

Family Nurse Practitioners (FNPs) should always update their competencies through lifelong learning. The use of modern technologies supports the changing health expectations of many patients. My goal is to read more journal articles and evidence-based research to widen my competencies. I will always interact with different professionals such as doctors and nurses. I will also be involved in the experiences of my patients. I will treat learning as a continuous process. This process can produce better competencies. I will join different teams to improve my knowledge in healthcare practice (Blair & Jansen, 2015). This goal also supports my philosophy. I have developed powerful values and decisions that have the potential to support my nursing philosophy.

Such values and beliefs can transform the nature of nursing. For instance, I always embrace different values such as persistence, honesty, kindness, compassion, and empathy. Such values have the potential to support the health needs of every family. I always focus on the four meta-paradigms of nursing to provide quality care. These paradigms include “health, nursing, people, and environment” (Iglehart, 2013, p. 1937). Caregivers should combine these four paradigms to achieve the best goals. The most important “objective is to promote, restore, and maintain the patient’s mind, body, and spirit” (Iglehart, 2013, p. 1936).

Conclusion

My goal is to promote a collaborative and interdisciplinary process that can improve nature care. I will always demonstrate competence and commitment to achieve my professional goals. Lifelong learning will be critical towards improving my values, skills, and competencies. This philosophy of nursing will support the health needs of diverse populations and families.
