“Investigation of the Trust Status of the Nurse-Patient Relationship”: Article Critique

Background and Significance

The background and significance of the proposed study have made it clear, and the audience can understand the study’s primary purpose. In this case, the researchers have stated that trust is an essential aspect of a professional care relationship as it can impact the quality of patient care. Moreover, the surveyors have revealed that the study investigates the trust status of the nurse-patient connection.

Research Question and Hypothesis

The research questions help surveyors focus on the main aspects that can help them meet the research goals. In this study, the research question is about the patients’ views on the trust status toward nurses. The question has also been placed in the context of an appropriate theoretical framework and can be used by the readers to analyze whether the examiners achieved the research objectives. The purpose of the study has been validated using the data provided by the participants.

Review of the Literature

The surveys have used other resources to ensure that adequate information is obtained during the study. Moreover, an appropriate conceptual framework for the development of the research study was exercised. Constructing a conceptual framework before collecting data is also encouraged in surveys. Presenting the literature review in an organized format helps the audience to understand the information being presented. In this case, the data flows logically and allows individuals to understand the main issues raised in the investigation. However, the literature lacks a synthesis summary that presents overall strengths and weaknesses to arrive at a logical conclusion. Additionally, it does not include the analysis of strengths and weaknesses. Gaps are also available in the research since the literature does not uncover how gender may impact the relationship between nurses and patients.

Methods Internal and External Validity

The controls for the threats to internal validity have not been exercised in the survey. Therefore, it is also difficult to focus on the sources of bias and how they were dealt with in the study.

Research Design

The quantitative research design was used in this study, which helped the researchers to obtain valid results. Moreover, a cross-sectional descriptive survey helped the surveyors to eliminate bias by ensuring that different patients participated in the study (Ozaras & Abaan, 2018). The design seems to flow with the proposed research question as it involves using questionnaires to acquire data that can help them meet the study’s aims.

Sampling

The sampling method used in the study was random sampling, and the sample size was calculated by power analysis and was composed of 356 inpatients diagnosed with cancer. The sampling is appropriate for the design since it eliminates bias and increases the chances of acquiring valid data. Additionally, the sample size is appropriate since 356 patients can provide adequate information regarding their relationships with the nurses.

Legal-Ethical Issues

Ethics in research is vital and was experienced in the survey. For instance, privacy was exercised since the names of the participants were not disclosed (Ozaras & Abaan, 2018). Also, no individual was forced to participate in the study, which is a primary ethical consideration in research. Written approval was also obtained from the hospital and consent letters from the patients.

Data Collection Methods and Procedures

Data collection was exercised using questionnaires, whereby the participants were encouraged to provide information about the research topic. “Trust in Nurses Scale” was also used in data collection to ensure that information was adequate.

Reliability and Validity

No appropriate method was used to test the reliability of the instruments. Moreover, no strengths and weaknesses related to the reliability and validity of instruments have been presented.

Data Analysis

The inferential statistics appropriate for the type of design since they help in analyzing the information acquired. Also, the analysis was vital as it helped in developing the research findings.

Conclusions, Implications, and Recommendations

The results of the research question have been presented objectively. Additionally, the information regarding the results is concisely and sequentially presented to ensure that reads can understand the research findings.

Applicability to Nursing Practice

The strengths of the research outweigh its weaknesses since it has limited the gaps involving patient-nurse relationships. The benefits of applying the study findings are that it can help improve patient outcomes and increase the relationship between patients and nurses.
