Nursing Turnover Affect on Patients Care

Nurses turnover, due to numerous factors, is a significant problem in the global healthcare setting. The research focuses on voluntary nurse turnover, its causes, and its impact on patient satisfaction. In particular, the article discusses “the role of job satisfaction, work engagement, self-efficacy, and agentic capacities” (De Simone, Planta & Cicotto, 2018, p. 131). The impact of nursing job satisfaction and intention for voluntary turnover was examined concerning patient satisfaction. As a result of the study, it was identified that job satisfaction is the predominant factor influencing voluntary turnover. Moreover, the paper argues that a positive correlation was identified between work engagement, agentic capacities, self-efficiency, and job satisfaction. Thus, as the quality of one of the variables improves, overall job satisfaction increases.

The most important finding is the confirmation of the hypothesis that the investigated factors have a direct positive impact on patient satisfaction. In turn, a high level of voluntary turnover intention negatively affects the quality of patient care. Thus, the article concludes that job dissatisfaction among nurses leads to a decrease in the level of care provided due to a desire to leave the hospital.

The source appears to be useful for exploring the relationship between nurse turnover and patient care. Compared to other resources in the bibliography, this article presents a fairly general assumption which is nevertheless important to form an initial research framework. The information provided is reliable as the article is published in a reputable journal and uses scientific methods. However, the study has several serious limitations, including small sample size and highly subjective data obtained through self-reporting. Thus, since the study results do not include objective data on turnover rates, the results may be biased.

The goal of this source is to identify the correlation between voluntary turnover, nurses’ job satisfaction, and patient satisfaction. This resource was helpful as it can help shape the initial research framework and identify factors to consider. The information obtained from the article can be used in a research project to discuss the factors influencing turnover and a deeper understanding of its causes. This study also helps to look at the problem differently, revealing the complexity of the interaction of various factors.
