Ethnonursing Research Method and Its Background

Ethnonursing was introduced as the combination of nursing care beliefs, practices, and values perceived through a designated culture by direct experience. Nursing is described as a discipline that focuses on human care, assisting, and supporting an individual or a group of people to maintain or regain well-being in a culturally appropriate way. It can be divided into professional and culturally congruent nursing care. Professional nursing is defined as the proper professional care obtained through an educational institution to facilitate acts to improve the health condition of an individual or a group. On the other hand, culturally congruent care is based on supportive actions tailored for a specific individual or group culture to provide meaningful service. Health, in the theory, is also culturally defined and affects the nurses’ necessary actions. It is defined as a state of well-being that reflects the individual’s ability to perform daily activities according to their cultural and personal values.
