The human nervous system and brain are very important organs in a living organism, as they are responsible for movement, charisma, character, viewpoints, the world perception, and many other processes that might seem insignificant to people. Many scientists do a plethora of researches on the human brain because its activities and procedures remain a riddle, as the brain is the nature’s best invention, which cannot be examined and studied without an intensive effort. The following paper will discuss and cover the particular functions of the nervous system and brain to show my understanding and independent opinions of competent scholars.
After watching the video that demonstrated the approaches of Dr. Lahn to brain studies, I understood that the human brain might still be evolving. There is much evidence of this phenomenon around the world (Stanley et al., 2016). For instance, it is estimated that Japanese (or other populations that inhabit radiated areas) can obtain much more knowledge and implement it for engineering unique inventions or developing the most efficient and useful products for humanity. However, our brain is still evolving, regardless of any specific dwelling. According to the viewed film, the human brain was evolving during many historical periods and eras (Stanley et al., 2016).
Nevertheless, this organ remains the fastest evolving organism on our planet because other mammal species are identically the same as they were thousands of years ago, whereas people managed to overcome particular difficulties with their primary needs (Stanley et al., 2016).
Nowadays, the majority of our planet’s population does not worry about hunting, fishing, digging wells, and discovering other vital sources. Another way of brain evolution implies the speed of humanity’s development, as this factor has increased recently. Our life on Earth today flows rapidly because everyone wants to be efficient and useful for his or her environment and society in general. Therefore, all people try to invent new products or modernize old items (Stanley et al., 2016). These factors say that humanity’s technological progress becomes more evident and obvious with every new decade.
Anatomy and the Nervous System
Although there are many more structures in the brain, I decided to discuss two specific elements that are related to the nervous system. These brain parts are called the hypothalamus and thalamus. These organs are situated in the very middle of the human brain and are connected to each other (Nieuwenhuys et al., 2014).
However, the primary functions of the hypothalamus include such processes as stimulating muscles, receiving various signals from them, controlling the heart rate, and supporting the bladder. Moreover, the hypothalamus is responsible for human endocrine and nervous systems. If this organ is damaged, a person can obtain chronic stress, hypothermia, lethargy, and other similar issues.
Thalamus is a more interesting organ for researches, as it is divided into two equal ellipse spheres that are situated on the sides of the aforementioned hypothalamus. However, this system is intended to support our feelings (Nieuwenhuys et al., 2014). For instance, when we see, hear, touch, or taste something, our supplementary organs send specific signals through the nervous system directly to the thalamus. In turn, this organ processes every feeling and makes one realize certain information appropriately and precisely. If the thalamus is damaged, a person is likely to have amnesia, dementia, apathy, sleepiness, and other crucial effects that might influence one’s ability to have the right sense of reality.
In order to provide people, who were destined to face the aforementioned issues with proper medical treatment, it would be advantageous for them to stay in bed for an extended period (Nieuwenhuys et al., 2014). Both the thalamus and the hypothalamus are very sensitive to any new conditions. Therefore, they will be trying to function, but they will lack energy, which could have been lost due to acute stress or a brain concussion. Furthermore, it is essential to avoid stress and to keep calm in every situation. Otherwise, the entire healing course might be inefficient.
Any issue and process that occur in the human brain and nervous system is a subject of the neuroscience study. The scientist that inspects these elements implements various analytical studies and laboratory examinations in order to realize, understand, and explain the brain organs’ functions to other people. Perhaps, some people may think that this study is nothing more than working with a microscope that lets people observe molecules and bacteria.
Indeed, professional biologists analyze the structure of the smallest elements that form a general organ’s appearance. After this procedure, scientists usually make DNA and RNA tests to explore the primary chemicals that are included in their structure. When laboratory workers diminish the microscope lenses’ resolution, they are expecting to see how previously analyzed elements cooperate to identify their workflow in the human nervous system.
However, multiple cells would not be useful if they were not adjacent to one another. Otherwise, the entire body would fall apart, and all the vital processes could not be able to function properly in isolated molecules. Another objective of the neuroscience scientific study is to examine various cell connections, flexibility, and other procedures that make a person’s life easier and more efficient.
