The essential expertise and knowledge acquired during the course “Translational Research and Evidence-Based Practice (DNP-820A)” are presented and analyzed in this handout. The evaluations developed are provided in this paper in line with the American Nurses Association’s stated standards for determining a trained postgraduate nurse’s most significant, essential abilities (Ahmed et al., 2018). In relation to the execution of these professional attitudes, the four selected fundamental aspects and the information obtained during the course are discussed.

Essential I: Scientific Underpinnings for Practice

The ability to research nursing practice and theories and build an evidence-based project to execute a specific proposal is an important aspect of the practice’s scientific foundation. This also entails incorporating various ideologies to expand one’s comprehension of how to get the maximum benefit in the nursing profession and the healthcare system in general (Jairath et al., 2018). The capacity to integrate diverse disciplines (for example, biophysical, behavioral, and cognitive) into the development of theoretical knowledge and nursing practice is an important aspect of the course. Consolidation of previously gained information has also become one of the course’s vital aspects, as an advanced nurse must continually assess her own competence. The use of modern reading materials and the research that went behind them provided an excellent overview of the theoretical side of nursing practice.

Essential II: Organizational and Systems Leadership for Quality Improvement and Systems Thinking

Improving nursing practice using systems thinking entails planning professional activities in such a manner that nurses become visibly a vital part of the healthcare ecosystem. Systems thinking in healthcare refers to the capacity to look beyond one’s own work unit or department and understand how different sections of an organization collaborate to achieve goals (Wilkinson et al., 2018). It is carried out in order to assess present healthcare procedures and organizations. It is critical to understand how to assess companies, uncovers systemic issues, form non-profits, and contribute to organizational and global improvements.

The ambition to advance the nursing profession through collaboration with other organizations has become an important aspect of professional development. The organizational environment, as well as its professionalism and competency, significantly impact a medical worker’s system thinking and overall performance (Wilkinson et al., 2018). It also encourages professional execution of limits and duties, as well as independent decision-making with certain limitations.

Essential III: Clinical Scholarship and Analytical Methods for Evidence-Based Practice

Analytical and advanced research methods are used to critically evaluate existing studies and other data in order to find and use the best evidence for practice. One of the most significant abilities of an experienced nurse practitioner is the capacity to process, change, and apply large training resources with the same efficiency (Cui et al., 2018). One of the most significant outcomes of the course is the examination of evidence-based literature and its application in practice, which leads to a better understanding of the unique interaction between theory and practice. Understanding the fact that medical interventions can be improved by employing the most up-to-date evidence in the formulation of healthcare treatments is at the core of the importance of clinical scholarship.

Essential VIII: Advanced Nursing Practice

Advanced knowledge and experience in clinical, educational, and senior roles are vital for enhancing nursing practice. The two primary responsibilities of a nurse specialist are where the nursing practice is most important (Jairath et al., 2018). The patients’ education is particularly critical in this regard. Moreover, to equip professionals for interdisciplinary training and patient-centered care, increased skills and knowledge in specific areas of nursing practice are combined with the translation of scientific information into practice (Tappen, 2022). Patient education is another facet of advanced practice nursing. DNP’s ability to communicate with patients and help them comprehend their diagnosis and treatment plans is one of our primary assets (Tappen, 2022). I can now demonstrate my degree of skill after carefully assessing what is necessary. An essential objective of the training is assisting in exhibiting the leadership and responsibility of being a professional nurse.

In addition, I would like to look into prospective adjustments in nursing best practices in addition to reviewing the findings. Advanced nursing care is being deliberately marketed as a cost-effective tool/resource for service redesign that may help the healthcare industry overcome labor shortages and problems (Tappen, 2022). Because of its capacity to promote nursing students’ critical thinking via in-depth practice and because it provides a helpful assessment tool for educators, simulation is becoming increasingly popular in nursing education (Tappen, 2022). Interprofessional education offers chances to improve clinical instruction for all students while also encouraging collaborative practice outside of the classroom (Tappen, 2022). One of the alternatives for advanced nursing training for nurses in general practice or mental health practice. As a nurse practitioner, one should be ready to cope with a vast specter of issues, some of which were encountered during the course. Encouraging me to expand my knowledge into other healthcare fields is a crucial outcome that will affect my future as a nurse practitioner.

Conclusion

To summarize the following essentials (I, II, III, and VIII), we may conclude that they form the basis of everyday nursing practice. One of the essential outcomes is realizing the information and abilities gained throughout the course and the transfer of this knowledge into actual activity. The study of nursing practice and theory, as well as the capacity to integrate numerous disciplines into the development of theoretical knowledge and nursing practice, has become an essential aspect of the course. On the other hand, the utilization of current research materials provided a solid overview of the theoretical side of nursing practice.

Systems thinking, an essential concept in healthcare, teaches the capacity to see beyond one’s work unit or department and grasp how the many divisions of an organization interact to achieve goals. This was done so that existing healthcare processes might be reviewed and evaluated from a critical standpoint. As a result, using systems thinking to enhance nursing practice necessitates reorganizing professional activities in such a manner that nurses feel valued members of the healthcare ecosystem.

This course’s analytical and advanced research methods for critically evaluating current research and other data to locate and apply the best evidence for practice have created a strong basis for our research and evaluations. It also leads to a deeper grasp of the one-of-a-kind relationship that exists between theory and practice. Professional growth and knowledge acquisition in specific areas of nursing practice is paired with the implementation of scientific information into practice to prepare professionals for interdisciplinary practice and patient-centered care. Thus, the skills acquired during the course “Translational Research and Evidence-based practice (DNP-820A)” certainly have practical applications and are able to increase the competence of both the nurse practitioner and the patient.
