The Patient-Centered Care: Interprofessional Collaboration

Interprofessional collaboration is essential to the workflow in any field, including healthcare. The interaction between nurses and doctors benefits both patients and healthcare providers. The collaboration includes “regular negotiation and interaction between professionals, valuing the expertise and contributions that various disciplines bring to patientcare” (Vatn & Dahl, 2022, p. 186). Healthcare professionals can share observations and opinions about patient care through constant communication and interaction.

In particular, the interaction between healthcare professionals improves the safety of patients with severe illnesses and those requiring intensive care. In addition, interprofessional collaboration contributes to a faster response to patient complaints and improved treatment outcomes (Vatn & Dahl, 2022). Furthermore, the interaction of different professionals in patient care allows you to quickly identify possible complications and prevent their development and deterioration of the patient’s condition. Communication and discussion of patient treatment can reduce the risk of medical errors due to different views on the problem.

Moreover, collaboration with colleagues has a positive effect on the mental health of medical workers. Labrague et al. (2022) note that the regular interaction of nurses with other healthcare providers contributes to increased job satisfaction and creates a favorable work environment. Patient care is often carried out in conditions of increased stress, while communication with colleagues allows you to clear your mind, helps to cope with stress, and prevents professional burnout.

Thus, interprofessional collaboration is indeed a necessity in the healthcare industry. However, its organization requires the creation of conditions for communication between professionals and an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect. That includes the interest in interaction on the part of professionals and creating the necessary conditions on the part of the healthcare institution’s management. In this case, the collaboration will contribute to both improving treatment outcomes and patient safety, as well as creating a favorable working environment with the protection of the mental state of medical workers.
