Over the initial three months, our foremost aim is to cultivate Bilal’s ability to initiate communication with his AAC system independently. By integrating specific, targeted activities that capture his interest, alongside the consistent modeling of AAC use by caregivers and educators, we anticipate fostering a sense of confidence and autonomy in Bilal’s communication efforts.

In parallel, our six-month goal is to enhance Bilal’s expressive language skills significantly. The plan is to methodically introduce and reinforce the use of five-word sentences through the AAC system, enabling Bilal to articulate his thoughts and feelings with clarity and precision (Langarika-Rocafort et al., 2021). This will be achieved through a tailored program that incorporates thematic vocabulary enhancement reflective of Bilal’s experiences and interests, coupled with structured sentence-building exercises. These sessions will be designed to build his linguistic capabilities progressively, ensuring a blend of challenge and success to maintain engagement.

This comprehensive approach is underpinned by Singapore’s rich ecosystem of educational and therapeutic resources, offering a supportive backdrop for Bilal’s journey. By closely aligning with local practices and leveraging available technology and expertise, we aim to create a nurturing and effective communication development path for Bilal. Through this detailed, specific strategy, we aspire not only to improve Bilal’s communication skills but also to enrich his social interactions and educational experiences, paving the way for a more inclusive and empowering future.

Strategies for Extending Communication

To effectively expand Bilal’s communication using AAC, a multifaceted strategy that caters to his unique interests and learning preferences is essential.
