Role of an Advanced Family Nurse Practitioner

Abstract

Advanced nursing is an “evidence-based practice whereby caregivers support the health needs of underserved populations” (Iglehart, 2013, p. 1937). These nurses should be ready to monitor and treat all patients with chronic or acute diseases. These caregivers should also prescribe appropriate medications to their patients. This good practice will provide cost-effective support and care. Family nurse practitioners are qualified and certified to provide individualized care to patients and their respective families. This paper presents research on an advanced family nurse practitioner.

Research Articles

The article “Expanding the Role of Advanced Nurse Practitioners: Risks and Rewards” explains how this country might not provide the best care to its citizens. The current shortage of advanced caregivers and physicians is a critical hindrance in many societies. According to the author, only a quarter of graduates provide primary or advanced care to their patients. The state should allow every nurse to provide advanced family care depending on his or her expertise (Iglehart, 2013). This recommendation is appropriate because there is a shortage of physicians and caregivers in the country. The author explains why the government should amend the present laws in order to increase the number of advanced family nurse practitioners. This approach will support the health needs of every newly insured citizen in the country.

The article “The role of Nurse Practitioners in Reinventing Primary Care” explains why the government should formulate new laws in order to increase the quality of primary care delivered to many Americans. The article explains why the country does not have enough advanced-practice caregivers or nurses. The authors explain why it would be appropriate to standardize the current nursing laws and acts. This approach will support the needs of every advanced family nursing practitioner. The article also explains why every nurse should be encouraged to gain new skills and competencies. This approach will equip the country with more “advanced family nursing practitioners who can work with their patients throughout their lives” (Naylor & Kurtzman, 2010, p. 897). The article also supports the decision to report every performance result. This practice will improve the quality of care provided by different practitioners. The authors also explain why there is a major shortage in healthcare. These recommendations will encourage more practitioners to provide individualized or family nursing care in the country.

Expert Opinion Article

The article “The Future of Nursing: Transforming Healthcare” presents an expert opinion on the issue of advanced family nursing. The authors begin by exploring the health challenges affecting the country. Many people have various diseases such as arthritis, mental health problems, diabetes, hypertension, and cancer. The aging American population also calls for better health services. The article explains why the government should address these challenges by transforming the sector. The country also needs specialized caregivers who will provide quality and timely care to every patient. This practice will reduce re-hospitalizations. The authors explain why every nurse should provide advanced family care. The nurses will “assume re-conceptualized roles in transitional care, health coaching, and healthcare improvement” (Reinhard & Hassmiller, 2013, p. 4). The current scientific knowledge and competence of these nurses can allow them to provide advanced care to every patient. The decision to provide advanced nursing care will address most of the health issues affecting many people today. The best practice is promoting diversity, collaboration, and leadership. This strategy will create a new system that provides timely, accessible, and seamless care to every citizen.
