Nurses Decreasing the Spread of Infection

Introduction: Clinical Question

The focus of the group’s work is to explain how to fight against the increasing number of new cases caused by infections and what nurses can do to prevent infection-related diseases. The problem of the massive is a lack of trust related to new inventions in science and medicine (Deurenberg et al., 2017). Even though professionals have made a breakthrough in developing new vaccines and tables to reduce the number of infections, people build distrust that does not allow them to cope with the global issue. The problem can be related to the latest COVID-19 infection, which stays unsolved due to the inability to provide vaccines for every person. The patient outcome, in this case, stays unchanged and the expansion of infection continues increasing. Distrust related to the development of new medications makes the patients’ experience less significant. Moreover, the lack of treatment effectiveness caused additional problems like the rapid rise in the number of suicide attempts (Sher, 2020). Consequently, the spread of infections might not be the single cause of death related to the general body condition and the psychological sets of minds that decrease the level of life activity.

Professionals in the healthcare industry have decided that hand washing and isolation can help prevent the spread of infections. This suggestion might be useful in decreasing the influence of the problem. However, nurses should continue finding new ways to support patients and increase the level of trust to ensure the success of applied practices. This paper will show the recent studies related to reducing the infection rate and show the common strategies used in modern practices. Moreover, it will identify the further improvements that can be applied to solve the issue and answer the main PICOT question.

Level of Evidence

It is crucial to identify the type of question and understand the problem correctly. Sarrouti and Lachkar (2017) stated that the wrong understanding of the issue might cause difficulties finding the right solutions to increase patients’ experience. Moreover, the performance of the clinical question classification system may decrease. Consequently, the evaluation aspect of the problem should not be underestimated by nurses, and more attention should be paid to explaining the issues to both doctors and the community that does not understand medical terminologies. The problem of infections and the most common solutions that can be applied can be related to the Therapy type of domain. This concept elaborates the outcomes of the applied solutions to the existing problem and sees the patients’ outcomes. This aspect rarely explains benefits and drawbacks as the treatment plans usually include more positive sides (University of Canberra). This type of clinical question proposes that the most effective kind of evidence is Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT).

Search Strategy

The question proposes two main types of solutions: handwashing and self-isolating. Consequently, these aspects should be studied in more depth to understand the real effectiveness of the methods. According to Abtahi-Naeini (2020), handwashing has become one of the most useful practices during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the cycle of infection transmission has decreased significantly. However, more people have come to hospitals with dermatitis and related skin issues because of the poor quality of soups or antiseptics. During the times of COVID-19, there was less attention paid to the health issues that were not caused by the main infection. Therefore, the result has shown that even though the effectiveness of handwashing is significant, it is crucial to control the problems caused by the low-quality product used in this practice.

The following solution stated in the PICOT is isolation, and Google Scholar presents several articles related to this method that show that the strategy did not show the expected level of effectiveness. For example, Tang et al. (2020) mentioned that isolations helped decrease the spread of the earlier type of infection. However, the development of other kinds continued, and the general help of the method decreased. Moreover, in some world locations, self-isolating rules were not controlled seriously, and it could not stop the problem. More new genotypes appeared, and experts in the healthcare industry could not identify if isolation is needed for a short period of time. By evaluating the two articles related to the main solutions, I understood that handwashing could help to prevent the spread of infection, but self-isolation might not bring a real benefit to the fight against various diseases that spread from person to person. Even though there was a limitation like the inability of professionals to define the effectiveness of isolation, the approximate results helped form a specific opinion.

Conclusion

In conclusion, nurses should understand the advantages and disadvantages of different methods applied to solve the problem of infection spread. The aspects like handwashing and isolation may become helpful during such times as the COVID-19 pandemic. However, other negativities may appear due to a lack of attention to the quality of soap used in everyday practice or the control under the people who have to quarantine. By analyzing reliable reports and informing the community, more improvements may arise in the process of fighting against the spread of infection.
