Introduction
Today, many Americans suffer from chronic diseases such as cancer, hypertension, and diabetes. Patients with long-term health complications require specialized medical attention. “Family Nurse Practitioners provide basic health care services such as diagnosing diseases, conducting medical examinations, and prescribing medicine” (Britt, 2012, pp. 1-2). Thus, Family Nurse Practitioners contribute towards the wellbeing of the society. This essay discusses a medical organization in which a Family Nurse Practitioner would like to work.
Description of a Healthcare Organization
A Family Nurse Practitioner would like to work in a well-established community health facility that provides inpatient and outpatient health services to patients suffering from various illnesses. A good healthcare facility should be a non-profit organization that offers healthcare services to everyone in the society. Through a non-profit medical association, a Family Nurse Practitioner can provide unbiased medical services to all patients regardless of their economic status. The health organization should be proactive in carrying out regular and thorough community-wide health needs evaluation. It should also be carrying out medical promotion in the community.
A part from practicing nursing, a Family Nurse Practitioner can be interested in carrying out medical research and enhancing his or her medical skills. Therefore, a good medical organization should offer medical services and training programs. Furthermore, it should be offering refresher courses to its medical staff because they need constant training to enable them deal with new health challenges effectively. Moreover, it should have flexible working hours because some Family Nurse Practitioners need time to study and carry out research.
Lack of ethics can affect the quality of healthcare offered by a medical organization. Therefore, a Family Nurse Practitioner should work in a well-established medical organization that adheres to ethical guidelines in medicine. For example, it must have basic medical equipment, instruments, and medicine to facilitate proper treatment of patients. It should have proper occupational safety measures because there are many health risks in nursing.
The organization should have a good compensation scheme for its employees. For example, it should offer accommodation, medical, and risk allowances. It should provide competitive remuneration to its medical personnel because they often execute demanding tasks. Moreover, it should be compensating nurses for extra working hours. In addition, a good medical association should motivate its workers to perform their tasks properly.
The Florida Board of Nursing
The Florida Board of Nursing regulates medical services in the state of Florida. It ensures that medical practitioners and organizations in Florida adhere to ethical guidelines in medicine (Florida Board of Nursing, 2013, p. 1). Therefore, Family Nurse Practitioners should seek certification from the Board of Nursing to enable them access employment opportunities in competitive health organizations. The Board of Nursing offers various training programs to medical practitioners. Thus, Family Nurse Practitioners can improve their skills by pursuing refresher courses offered by the Board of Nursing. Moreover, “the Nurse Practice Act ensures that every nurse practicing in Florida meets minimum requirements for safe practice” (Florida Board of Nursing, 2013, p. 2).
Conclusion
This essay has discussed the qualities of a good medical organization. Therefore, a Family Nurse Practitioner should look forward to working in a medical organization that offers high quality medical services. It should adhere to the ethical rules stated in the Nurse Practice Act. Moreover, it should have good working conditions because nurses cannot perform their duties properly in harsh working conditions.
