Nursing is a serious profession that requires plenty of skills. The most important of them are the skills of leading, managing, and following. Basically, leading in nursing is the ability to direct the members of the team, and help them with difficult patients (Yoder-Wise, 2014). Being a good follower also requires certain skills. Every member of the nursing team must respect their colleagues and trust their leader. However, being a good nurse also requires some management skills. For the head nurse, it is working with their subordinates and making crucial decisions on which the lives of patients can depend. For the practical nurse, it is working with patients and being helpful, patient, and responsive (Yoder-Wise, 2014).
Thus, in nursing, it is crucial to have a leader with excellent leadership and management skills who can quickly make right decisions in difficult situations and people who can follow their leader without causing any disruptions inside the team. They have to work under high pressure and, therefore, they have to learn how to deal with it (Huber, 2013).
