Comparing and Contrasting Different Nursing Roles

Introduction

Nurses and Advanced Role Practitioners (ARP) in nursing work hard in order to improve the quality of healthcare in many organizations. Nurses should promote the quality and level of clinical practice, education, primary care, and research. Nurse Practitioners are advanced-practice caregivers in the United States (Iglehart, 2013). These professional caregivers deliver primary care to patients with different health expectations. They also offer their ideas in order to promote community health development. They identify symptoms and offer evidence-based support to patients with varying health needs. Nurse Practitioners take the best approach in order to offer the best preventative care. These specialists “provide quality care to populations such as the elderly, geriatric patients, and individuals with mental conditions or illnesses” (Iglehart, 2013, p. 1939).

The other advanced nursing role is of a Nurse Educator. Nurse Educators are competent individuals who work hard to improve the quality of nursing in many countries. These professionals should fulfill specific requirements in order to provide the best instructions to their learners. Nurse Educators identify and design the best education programs for their students. They design the best programs depending on the changing needs of their students. These individuals also redefine the best teaching practices in order to make every learning process successful. Such roles explain why this position continues to attract more practitioners. Nurse Educators should possess the best competencies in order to make nursing effective and evidence-based (Sullivan, 2013).

Nurse Informaticists dedicate their skills towards “improving communication and information management in medical and nursing practice” (Sharma & Romas, 2011, p. 64). These professionals integrate different fields such as computer science, information systems, and data management (Sharma & Romas, 2011). They document various materials and resources in order to improve the quality of nursing care. The current use of information systems and computer technologies makes this career simpler and effective. Nurse Informatics should develop new systems that are user-friendly, applicable, and effective. The roles of these practitioners continue to improve the level of healthcare.

A Nurse Administrator oversees the process of patient care and health delivery. A Nurse Administrator ensures his or her employees promote the best moral practices and ethical guidelines. Nurse Administrators allocate medical duties and supervise various activities in their respective facilities. Nurse Administrators improve the quality of healthcare by focusing on every good nursing practice (Sharma & Romas, 2011). They improve the nature of collaboration and responsiveness in every nursing institution. Nurse Administrators work extra-harder to achieve the best health outcomes. These professionals monitor various practices such “patient care, symptom management, and consultation” (Needleman & Hassmiller, 2009, p. 629).

Nurse Practitioners and Nurse Administrators play a critical role towards improving clinical practice and primary care. Nurse Educators promote the quality of education in every nursing institution. These advanced roles are necessary because they ensure patients receive quality care and support (Needleman & Hassmiller, 2009). Nursing theorists support the roles of these professional caregivers. These ARPs put efforts to improve the quality of healthcare in every community.

Advanced Practice Role

My future goal is to provide quality care to my patients. I will portray the highest level of professionalism as a Family Nurse Practitioner. I will also consider the best leadership strategies in order to improve my patients’ health outcomes. A Family Nurse Practitioner should examine the regulatory and legal requirements needed for his or her practice. Such requirements will vary from one state to the other. I am planning to practice in Florida. The state expects every Nurse Practitioner to exhibit the highest level of professionalism. Nurses and caregivers should also have the required certification and license. I will consider these regulatory requirements in order to improve the quality of nursing and family care in my state (Needleman & Hassmiller, 2009). Florida expects the best codes of ethics and moral obligations from nurses and physicians. My goal is to examine and consider such requirements to support my nursing practice.

Every Nurse Practitioner wants to become competent in order to achieve his or her goals. The best strategy towards achieving the above goals as a nurse is to join various professional organizations. Nurses should join these professional institutions in order to understand every good practice or theory in nursing. Such organizations protect their practitioners from unnecessary abuse or discrimination. The organizations also promote the level of learning and nursing improvement. Nurses and physicians should identify the best professional organizations depending on their expectations and career goals. This description explains why I am looking forward to join various organizations in Florida.

The first institution is the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). This organization informs its members about every new evidence-based practice in nursing. The agency also supports every good practice in nursing. The board also provides the best guidelines and strategies to improve the health conditions and outcomes of every population. The other relevant organization is the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF). The organization offers the best support to improve the nature of nursing. Members get timely updates and ideas to improve their professionalism (Needleman & Hassmiller, 2009). The agency supports every positive nursing practice. The approach has continued to make nursing an effective practice in the country.

A Family Nurse Practitioner should have several competencies in order to achieve his or her objectives. Such nurses should be able to provide evidence-based care to their patients without any support. I will also work hard in order to improve my competencies as a Family Nurse Practitioner. The practitioner should possess relevant certification from various agencies such as the American Nurses Credential Center (ANCC) and the American Academy of Nurses Practitioner (AANP). Such institutions monitor the competencies and skills of every nurse in the country. The practice also ensures every person becomes “a team player, self-motivated, and charismatic” (Sullivan, 2013, p. 53). The caregiver should be a good communicator in order to improve the quality of care availed to every patient. I will also embrace the best practices in order to emerge successful.

I am looking forward to provide the best care to patients with various health needs. The approach will increase my skills as a nurse practitioner. The practice will also benefit the wider society. Family Nurse Practitioners should always embrace every new practice in order to support the changing needs of their clients and stakeholders. I am planning to work in one of the best organizations and settings. The decision will make it easier for me “to improve my skills, work as a team, and eventually achieve my goals” (Sullivan, 2013, p. 67). My dream is to work as a primary care provider in Miami, Florida. The opportunity will make me competent as a Family Nurse Practitioner. The practice will also support my career objectives.

I will also work with a group of Nephrologists. Such caregivers provide quality medical assistance to patients with various health complications. Most of the targeted patients are unable to have normal lives. This situation explains why Family Nurse Practitioners should possess the best skills and competencies to improve the experiences of their clients. The population I am planning to work with includes patients with Pre-ESRD and End Stage Kidney Disease (ESRD). I will dedicate myself to the health expectations of these patients. Family Nurse Practitioners work with patients with unique health demands. These practitioners should provide primary and secondary care to such groups (Needleman & Hassmiller, 2009). They should portray the highest level of professionalism in order to record the best health gains. The above description explains why I am focusing on the health expectations of these vulnerable patients.

Leadership Attributes of the Advanced Practice Role

Leadership helps companies and healthcare institutions attain their potentials. Every person can embrace the best leadership concepts to achieve his or her objectives. I believe my leadership style will help me achieve most of the professional and academic goals. Every leadership style has its unique disadvantages and advantages. A successful leader embraces the best style depending on his or her objectives. I always use participative leadership style (Sullivan, 2013). This leadership style follows a democratic approach. A participative leadership style encourages individuals to be part of the decision-making process. Such leadership model embraces the concept of teamwork. The theoretical approach will also result in better contributions from every member.

I possess several traits as a democratic or participative leader. I have some of the best qualities as a team player. A team player mentors and engages his or her colleagues in every decision-making process. I always encourage my teammates to share their opinions and ideas. I also monitor the nature of our decisions to ensure the group is on the right path. I have always remained creative and professional as a participative leader. I have always encouraged my teammates to share their opinions or thoughts (Iglehart, 2013). I am always ready to be part of every new project. Such skills will always make me a successful leader.

I also have good problem-solving abilities. These abilities have encouraged me to become a quick thinker. I possess the best communication skills and decision-making abilities. I always collaborate with my employees and leaders in order to attain every objective. The above skills explain why I am on the right path towards realizing my potentials. I am planning to develop my competencies as a critical thinker. Critical thinking is a powerful skill in every leadership practice (Sullivan, 2013). I am also planning to develop my leadership skills in nursing. Nurse Practitioners should use the best skills to support the expectations of vulnerable populations. I will also work hard to improve my confidence. The practice will make it easier for me to realize my leadership goals.

I will use various strategies to attain the above missing attributes. I will begin by collaborating with my tutors and fellow leaders. I will engage in different projects and programs. This process will improve my competencies as a future leader. I am planning to read widely to increase my skills. I will read more magazines, journals, and books on leadership. I will create a time-plan to evaluate and analyze my progress (Iglehart, 2013). This practice will help me realize my potentials as a future leader. I will interact with many co-workers and Family Nurse Practitioners. This strategy will improve my skills and competencies as a participative leader.

Health Policy and the Advanced Practice Role

One of the major health policy issues in the country is the question of disparity. Some ethnic populations and racial groups do not have access to quality health systems. Such individuals “receive substandard care from the relevant institutions regardless of their insurance covers or locations” (Health Policy, 2014, p. 1). This challenge continues to affect many people in this country. The situation calls for the best incentives and measures in order to make the issue a major national priority. The increasing number of non-White citizens in this country also explains why their health needs are critical than ever before. The minority groups in the United States face numerous challenges such as illnesses and premature deaths (Needleman & Hassmiller, 2009). These disparities affect many African Americans and Hispanics in the country. Such groups do not have access to better health support.

These “vulnerable groups are less likely to get the required therapies or procedures for diseases such as heart attacks, diabetes, and cancers” (Health Policy, 2014, p. 2). This discussion highlights the unique health issues affecting this country. The government should consider the best theoretical frameworks and strategies in order to address the problem. Many people are living in poverty (Health Policy, 2014). These populations report increasing cases of child abuse, enmity, racism, and discrimination. Such social malpractices have increased the level of insecurity in the affected regions. We should analyze the current challenge in order “to improve the quality of healthcare availed to these vulnerable groups” (Sharma & Romas, 2011, p. 48).

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has tried to “encourage the tacking of every affected population” (Health Policy, 2014, p. 2). The regulation calls for the best practices in order to track every race that faces such challenges and disparities. The step is relevant towards fixing this challenge. Some social conditions such as racism, insecurity, poverty, and personal nutritional or health behaviors are extremely hard to address (Health Policy, 2014). The current situation explains why many people in the country are no longer getting the required healthcare from their respective health institutions. The state should deal with this situation in order to improve the health gains of such populations.

Better laws and stringent legal frameworks will punish and identify every unjust healthcare system in the country. The government, various stakeholders, insurers, healthcare institutions, and individuals should consider the best strategies to influence the change in policy. The practice will ensure more people and agencies come up with better incentives in order to deal with this looming problem (Health Policy, 2014). I will personally empower and encourage my coworkers in order to change the above situation. We will achieve our goals by working together to provide quality care to every patient without discrimination. My institution should also embrace the best ideas and practices in order to record the best gains. The decision to implement the proposed policy will fight this problem of healthcare disparity in the country. The practice will ensure more people from minority groups have access to quality and timely healthcare. I will always work hard to achieve my career goals as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
