Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Advantages

Mental disorders have shown an aggressive rate in mortalities and need to be combatted. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a psychological treatment method that effectively controls problems such as depression, anxiety, and drug abuse. Through research, CBT has been effective compared to other approaches due to patients’ results. According to Bruscella (2020), CBT is more effective since it helps a patient become aware of an adverse attitude regarding thinking. Through CBT, a person can view challenging situations clearly, leading to its efficacy (Landau, 2020). CBT focuses on a particular issue and uses a goal-oriented approach depending on situations and preferences.

CBT has shown success in various disorders including depression, phobias, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and schizophrenia. Although CBT may help all people, people between 7-24 years have a high chance of benefiting from this therapy since it focuses on emotions and behaviors that can be controlled while one is young (Landau, 2020). Compared to normal psychiatric medication, CBT is better since it teaches someone skills to avoid it, unlike medication that may only treat at a particular stage. Medication only works when a patient takes them, while CBT enables one to maintain progress by offering self-control which is vital in recovering from mental disorders.

CBT can be combined with other therapies to give optimal recovery results. For instance, antidepressant medication and mindful meditation combined with cognitive behavioral therapy heal a patient faster than when not combined. Combining the therapies fastens the reduction of symptoms by 86% and prevents sensitive actions such as suicidal thoughts that are prevalent more so for teens who have stress and anxiety disorders (Brucella, 2020). Therefore, combinations give certain results within a short period.
