Business Plans in Nursing Practice

A business plan is the systematic assessment and outline of the components that are necessary for the business and the various goals for the business. The main components of the business plan format are the vision statement, people to implement the various strategies, the economic and cash flow assessment and the damage control plan. Project management tools are the applications used by project managers in the execution of task and responsibilities (Roussel, 2011). The tools are used for the planning and control or in outlining the project scope and the timelines (Hughes, 2010). Examples of project management tools include Gantt chart, PERT chart, work breakdown structures and logic networks. Project management strategies are the approaches employed by project managers to ensure that best practices are employed in the execution of the project in relation to financing, costs, schedule and other health requirements (Longman & Mullins, 2011).

On the other hand, a scope statement is a baseline provision that helps in understanding a project. It includes the extent of the project, the deliverables and the work which is needed to complete the deliverables. Problem statement it is a description of the issues that the project intends to address. The purpose statement is the summary of the objectives and goals intended to be achieved by the project.

A study conducted by Suhonen and Paasivaara (2011) established that organization and management plays an important role in ensuring quality service and in success of projects in various work units. Therefore, the various components of business plan formats help in ensuring that goals set in health care and management are achieved. In my facility, management tools and strategies are used to plan and ensure that the projects are conducted as per stipulated timelines. This is achieved by setting clear problem, purpose and scope statements (Brandt et al., 2010). The application of the components has been critical in avoiding apathetic organization and has enhanced cooperation between various stakeholders due to clear description of what the facility intends to achieve and the strategies to be employed to achieve the set goals.

According to Williams and Simmons (2012), it is important for nurse managers to learn to plan and execute projects as outlined in the business plan formats. Therefore, it is my role to use the components of business plan to ensure effective development and implementation of change management project.
