Impact of Nutritional Deficiencies in Early Life

People need to promote appropriate nutrition at any stage of human life because the outcomes of nutrient deprivation vary and are hard to control. Nowadays, nutrient deprivation is a public health issue that has to be discussed on a global level due to the long-term deficits that are crucial for a child’s development. As a rule, many children suffer from nutrient deprivation because they live in low-income families. Poor families do not have the required access to the required amount of safe and healthy food. As a result, nutrient deprivation may lead to some structural and functional changes in the body. For example, the development of brain functions can be decreased considerably, and children may have fewer opportunities to improve their mental conditions. Besides, cognitive impairment can be observed in childhood and lead to many mental and physical problems among adults.

Nutrient deprivation is a synonym for the absence of vitamins and minerals that are crucial for human health. As soon as children are deprived of vitamins, they can suffer from such problems as poor/weak skin, low blood pressure, obesity, and even depression. This kind of deprivation may also lead to many unpredictable outcomes depending on the environment a person has to live in and the opportunities and skills that should be developed by a person. For example, if a child is nutrient-deprived, has to work at an early age, has some bad habits, and does not pay much attention to hygiene, his life may be too short with some disabilities being developed with time. However, if a child suffers from nutrient deprivation in childhood but has good conditions for development and growth, such a child can avoid significant problems in health in adulthood.
