Assessing and Planning Care for an Elderly Person

It is required to compare the systemic changes in the patient’s body with those indicated in the instructions. The disadvantage of Sandra’s health, characteristic of the elderly, is the deterioration of vision and the condition of the veins. Varicose veins, which also appear due to the age and lifestyle of the patient, also worry the patient. According to Sandra, she has no memory problems, however, from time to time, she does not perceive information so quickly. The patient leads an active lifestyle; therefore, she claims that she is healthy, except for ailments that do not particularly bother her, which also include arthrosis.

Varicose veins of the lower extremities or those of the lower extremities expand superficial veins, accompanied by valve failure and impaired blood flow. Osteoarthritis is considered a progressive disease that affects the articular surfaces. It develops gradually leading to the deformation and destruction of cartilaginous tissues. Various causes lead to the disease, for example, high loads, typical for a patient engaged in cycling. Finally, the progressive decline of vision characteristic of old age can cause further difficulties in orientation in space.

Experts traditionally recommend following a proper diet and a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise, weight control, stress reduction, and smoking cessation. Compliance with all these recommendations helps to form your line of defense in the fight against age-related changes in the organ of vision. It is also important to regularly undergo an examination by an ophthalmologist and follow all his recommendations. As for arthrosis, the disease responds well to treatment with a timely diagnosis. For example, with the help of shock wave therapy, when short-term exposure to low-frequency acoustic impulses contributes to the restoration of the joints. In addition, drug therapy that activates regeneration, electrophoresis with drugs, and carboxytherapy can be used. The patient must necessarily reduce the load on diseased joints in this case.

There are two fundamental modern methods for the treatment of varicose veins: sclerosis of varicose veins and laser soldering of such veins. When sclerosing a varicose vein, a substance is injected, gluing the vessels’ walls together, and subsequently, such a vein disappears. With laser coagulation of varicose veins, a laser diode is introduced into the boat, which heats the vessel from the inside. The vessel’s walls stick together in the same way as during sclerosis. Both procedures performed on the same day are painless and safe. After the process, the patient can immediately return to their normal lifestyle.

Talking about the cultural consequences of the chosen course of improvement, one cannot take into account the patient’s desire to adhere to proper nutrition. At the same time, Sandra emphasizes that she often refuses meat, however, without compensating for the loss of protein norms. It should be remembered that, firstly, meat contains a large amount of protein, and as you know, it helps build muscle mass, helps control weight, and improves metabolism. Secondly, meat is a B vitamin, iron, phosphorus, and zinc source. By replacing the harmful elements of the product by changing the method of preparation or analogs, it would be possible to improve the patient’s diet without violating his eating habits.

Based on all of the above, Sandra needs medical interventions in such matters as the prevention of visual impairment, bone and joint diseases, and the treatment of venous disorders. Each of these patient problems can be solved by developing personal complex medical and practical measures that will eliminate the inconvenience of the patient’s daily life. Thus, he will work out his problems with a professional and improve the quality of his life.
