African American Women’s Experiences With Breast Cancer Screening

Introduction

The report is presented logically since it has all the aspects of the research. To begin with, the paper has reviewed past literature on the topic of the study with the drawn inferences being related to the findings of the study. The research methodology follows the literature with the design and methods of collecting data is mentioned. Before the collection of data, the researchers established a sample of the population to be studied. Despite this step having been undertaken successfully, the researcher could have given a chance to all participants to have an equal chance to participate through the utilization of other sampling methods such as random sampling. The collected data was followed by coding and analysis with findings being presented thematically. The findings were presented in detail with reference being made to previous studies in the discussion section. In addition, the discussion sector established whether the findings were consistent or inconsistent with the literature. This was followed by the conclusion.

Missing Steps

Although the researchers conducted the study well, they missed the inclusion of some fundamental steps. First, they did not analyze the validity and reliability of the study concerning its use both internally and externally. There was no testing of the questionnaire and interviews as relevant methods to collect data from the study population. The methods of collecting data could have been tested using a pilot study in the same population to establish the effectiveness of the techniques in capturing the objectives of the study. The authors failed to provide the limitations of the study and possible paths for future studies (Janice, Cohen & TArzian, 2001). This could have enabled future researchers to establish the specific field of limitation that they could explore. Lastly, the study failed to provide a specific section highlighting the recommendations that could be followed concerning screening of breast cancer among African American women.

Was the report consumer-friendly?

This report is consumer-friendly since it highlights the main issues of the study phenomena. The researcher utilized the thematic technique of analyzing issues thereby making users go directly to issues of their interest.

Linking Steps

The steps undertaken by the researcher do follow each other logically. The different sections are linked together logically as indicated by the research methodology coming after the reviewed literature and the discussion of findings coming after the findings section.

The Strengths and Weaknesses of the report

This report is significant because of various reasons. It has highlighted the structure through which an individual could follow while conducting research. From the research, it is evident that a researcher needs to declare the purpose of the study known before proceeding any further into the research. The research is also significant because it highlights the specific issues of the research phenomenon. For instance, the study established that it is important for African American women to accept a holistic approach to health issues that are concerned with the testing of cancer. On the contrary, the study failed to highlight its validity with the data collection methods not being tested. Therefore, the validity of the findings is not very clear.

Following these limitations, future studies must test the effectiveness of the methods of collecting data through a pilot study first before undertaking the study. The studies undertaken in the future should have all those missing sections with clear recommendations and steps for further studies being indicated at the end.
